WORLD’S EMERGING ELECTRONICS GIANT

The electronics industry in Vietnam is growing strongly, becoming one of the key manufacturing hubs in Asia.

In 2024, Vietnam was the 5th largest exporter of electronic equipment, computers, and components in the world – the biggest exporter in Southeast Asia. The export turnover of the electronics industry exceeded $126 billion, accounting for over one-third of the total national export turnover (Vietnam Electronic Industries Association). Moreover, Vietnam also ranked 2nd in the top phone and parts exporting countries in the world (Vietnam Investment Review).

DEEP C Industrial Zones in Hai Phong and Quang Ninh is now home to large FDI investments in the electronics industries, such as Pegatron, and Foxconn, Universal Scientific Industrial (USI).

Market Overview

The United States, Europe, China, and the Republic of Korea make up the main export markets of the Vietnamese electronics industry. The Vietnamese mobile phone market has become a bright spot with rapid developments as Apple’s three major partners in the country continuously expanded their investment in electronics production activities (VCCI).

Moreover, Vietnam’s ability to participate in the global electronics supply chain is growing, demonstrated by the increasing proportion of Vietnam’s export of intermediate and final goods in world electronics exports, attracting large FDIs into the electronics industry.

Despite achieving encouraging results, the current localization rate of the electronics industry is about 5-10%. Electronic products on the Vietnamese market are mostly imported complete units or assembled domestically using mostly imported components (Ministry of Industry & Trade).
