VIETNAM: A RISING SEMICONDUCTOR POWERHOUSE
VIETNAM: A RISING SEMICONDUCTOR POWERHOUSE
The world’s leading chip corporations are actively present in Vietnam as the global semiconductor race heats up.
Vietnam’s semiconductor industry shows strong growth potential with the entry of world’s leading corporations and the participation of large domestic enterprises. The country is now home to 50 design companies, 5 packaging and testing companies for microchips, and more than 10 companies in the semiconductor technology field.
Vietnam’s involvement in the sector spans several key levels:
Vietnam is investing heavily in large-scale infrastructures to meet the high demand of semiconductor production.
Vietnam currently has more than 240 universities, of which nearly 160 have majors in engineering technology. Each year, around 134,000 students enter the engineering industry.
The Government issued Decision No. 1017/QD-TTg approving the Program “Developing human resources for the semiconductor industry to 2030, with a vision to 2050”.
Vietnam’s semiconductor industry benefits from a comprehensive policy framework:
Under National Assembly Resolution No. 226/2025/QH15, Hai Phong Free Trade Zone (FTZ) is emerging as Vietnam’s next-generation hub for high-tech and innovation-driven industries. With 800+ hectares within the FTZ, DEEP C is set to become a leading semiconductor hub in Vietnam, offering competitive operating costs, investor-friendly administration, and world-class infrastructure.
Case Study
Universal Scientific Industrial – flagship semiconductor investment in Northern Vietnam.
Universal Scientific Industrial Vietnam Co., Ltd. is a direct investment of USI – Universal Scientific Industrial (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., a global leader in electronic design and manufacturing, and advanced SiP (System-in-Package) technology. USI is a member of ASE Technology Holding, one of the world’s leading corporations in semiconductor backend services.
USI selected DEEP C Hai Phong 1 industrial park to manufacture SiP (System-in-Package) modules for wearable devices, an essential link in the semiconductor value chain.
Phase 1 delivers over 10 million modules annually. Phase 2 is underway, and Phase 3 is in research and planning, with commission expected by 2027.
This continued expansion reflects USI’s confidence in DEEP C’s infrastructure, services, and scalability, positioning the project as a flagship semiconductor investment in Northern Vietnam.
